A total of 47 graduates, accompanied by family and friends, received congratulations from Professor Bruce Brown, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (research), the Mayor of Hastings, Cllr Bruce Dowling and other guests.

Dr Paul Frost, Campus Director, commended students on their achievements. Debra Huleatt, received two awards for attaining this year’s highest mark in her dissertation project, both in her subject, Environmental Biology and Education BSc(Hons), and at the Hastings campus. Annabelle Monks, Bridey Swarbrick and Carey Poole also received awards for exceptionally high marks.

Supporters of the university presented the Patron’s awards, which were made possible by the donations and support of local businesses, Michael Foster Law and Drallim.

The Michael Foster Law Prize for outstanding student volunteer was awarded to Iain Boyle, who achieved a 2:1 in Applied Social Science BA(Hons) while undertaking voluntary work with Shelter, SEAP and other Hastings community organisations throughout his studies. Scarlett Fernandez and Karen Simnett were also highly commended for their volunteering efforts.

The Drallim Prize for achievements in mathematics and computing was awarded to Senthurran Sithivinayagar, for attaining the highest marks in his dissertation project.

This year sees the first of the Bachelors of Science graduates from the joint honours programme at the campus, covering subjects in science, mathematics and education.
