Chantal, a PhD student, is one of 12 women selected to participate in the Soapbox Science London event on London's Southbank on Saturday (28 May). Her session is entitled 'Nuclear physics: Exploring the centre of the atom and harnessing its potential' and she will be discussing her work and her experiences as a female scientist.
Chantal said: “Nuclear physics is often associated with negative connotations, but it is important to provide a more balanced view. Everything we do as scientists is driven by a thirst for knowledge and geared towards a real-world application. We study unimaginably small structures to provide the knowledge required for a rich variety of applications, from medicine to technology. By discussing my work with such a diverse audience I aim to shed light on why this work is important, and I hope it will inspire interest in nuclear physics.”
The event’s mission is to help eliminate gender inequality in science by raising the profile and challenging the public’s view of women in science.
The event takes place between 2pm and 5pm at Queen’s Stone, Riverside walkway by Gabriel’s Wharf, London.
