He will join Dame Sarah Storey as ParalympicGB’s most experienced athlete as he makes his appearance at a seventh consecutive Games – the most ever by an athlete in a single sport.
As part of his training preparation, Simon, who lives in Peacehaven, has been working with the °®¶¹´«Ã½’s Sport and Exercise Science Consultancy Unit as part of the British Wheelchair Basketball performance programme.
Speaking about his selection, Simon Munn said: “This will be my seventh Paralympic Games. I am hugely proud of what I have achieved. It doesn’t get any easier and there are moments when I ask why I keep putting myself through this. But when you get to a major tournament like the Paralympics there is nothing quite like it.”
Simon’s strength and conditioning coach, Alex Bliss, from the °®¶¹´«Ã½’s School of Sport and Service Management said: “I have been working with Simon since London 2012, where he narrowly missed out on a medal when the team finished fourth. He is an exceptionally dedicated, determined guy, and exudes a real passion for his sport. He is an inspiration and I’m delighted he has been selected for his seventh Paralympics. I hope he and the team can achieve the gold medal in Rio”
Simon made his Paralympic debut in Barcelona in 1992, won a silver medal in Atlanta in 1996 and bronzes in Athens (2004) and Beijing (2008).
