Professor Cyril Crua, the university’s Professor of Engineering, collected the award from the Institute for Liquid Atomization and Spray Systems (ILASS) at its conference in Chicago – the largest conference of its kind in the world.
Professor Crua, based at the Sir Harry Ricardo Laboratories in the university’s Advanced Engineering Centre in Moulsecoomb, has spent 20 years in optical and laser-based diagnostics for experimental fluid dynamics, with a focus on spray formation and combustion.
Part of his research focuses on the microscopic fuel droplets as they reach combustion chambers. It is hoped that understanding the processes will lead to cleaner and more efficient fuels.
