For this new show, Lucy grabbed her easel and brushes and set off for Petworth House and Park. Nestled in the South Downs, the National Trust site is most famous for its landscaped park and its fine art collection.
The exhibition is made up of 55 watercolour and oil paintings. Award winning painter Lucy, was inspired by the Deer Park at Petworth, where she spent 6 months painting the 700 acres of countryside. Lucy enjoys painting outdoors and isn’t put off by a spot of rain, where she captures the energy of the day from a dreamy sunrise to a dramatic sunset.
In an interview for BN1 magazine, Lucy said: “My works are a response to the landscapes around us in all weathers. I paint loose interpretations of the environment rather than getting hung up on details. I want the viewer to connect to that immediacy within themselves. They don’t need to know the landscape, just be able to respond emotionally to it.”
Lucy holds an MA in Fine Art from the °®¶¹´«Ã½ and looks back fondly on her experience: "Doing an MA in Fine Art is such an invaluable learning. It teaches you not to just make lots of random pretty paintings with no meaning but to dig deep and really understand what you are painting and why you are painting it.”
