We are evaluating the development and implementation of a mobile phone app for use by stable HIV patients, being piloted by staff and patients at Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals Trust.
Our research involves engaging stakeholders (including patients and clinicians) in the development process and providing formative and dynamic real time feedback to the project implementation team to help contribute to the likelihood of success of the pilot and longer-term roll out of the technology.
The wider project seeks to demonstrate the effectiveness of the new technology to reduce costs and free up capacity whilst maintaining high-quality care for patients with virologically stable HIV.
It also seeks to improve access to timely information for patients to support self-management in this field.
Impact will be reported at the close of the project. It is hoped that findings relating to functional health, patient experience, clinical outcomes and cost will improve understanding about the way in which the app is used by patients and health care professionals and enable informed decision-making about future developments.
